Family

Parents, spouses, children, siblings. The Quran places family ties close to worship itself, and it is honest about how hard they can be.

QuranMeaning in our own words

Your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him, and that you be good to your parents. If one or both of them reach old age with you, do not say to them even “uff”, nor rebuke them, but speak to them with honour.

Lower to them the wing of humility out of mercy, and say: “My Lord, have mercy on them as they raised me when I was small.”

Among His signs is that He created for you spouses from among yourselves so that you may find tranquillity in them, and He placed between you affection and mercy. In that are signs for people who reflect.

Those who say: “Our Lord, grant us from our spouses and children the comfort of our eyes, and make us leaders of the God-conscious.”
